BT in the UK is my ISP their cable comes into my study which is on the side the side of a fairly large house and connects to a BT Smarthub 6 router. Currently the desktop and the NAS are hardwired to the router together with a Devolo 1200+ "PowerLine" adaptor which is used to distribute Wifi to the rest of the house.
